Bill Evans, más melancólico y genial que nunca.
Cuando uno piensa en una música de jazz al piano, romántica, lírica, el primer nombre que acude a la mente, aquel que influyó tanto en tantos, es por supuesto Bill Evans. Tan así lo vio por ejemplo Miles Davis, que lo incluyó en las sesiones de su inmortal Kind of Blue. You Must Believe In Spring, una grabación en trío, tardía dentro de la producción de Evans (1977 y salió recién en 1981), presenta una ejecución maravillosa y una producción impecable. El tema que da título al álbum se ha transformado en un standard para todo jazzero de ley.
El disco es una joyita, una obra maestra dentro del catálogo Evans. Con uno de sus tríos menos apreciados, acuñó una joyita, diferenciándola de otras obras suyas como "Moonbeams" y "The Bill Evans Album" por hacerla una unidad de canciones y no una compilación de los deleites habituales en, por ejemplo, su "Trio '65".
Evans fue uno de los pocos jazzeros que hizo grandes DISCOS, en el sentido fuerte de la palabra. Tenía conceptos fuertes y aquí el concepto se nota patentemente, dando por resultado siete temas unificados estilística y emocionalmente.
La banda fue ignominiosamente subvalorada: Eddie Gomez, concluyendo aqui una labor de 11 años junto al maestro Evans, aportando sus comentarios más sensibles que nunca al espíritu de don Bill. Y Eliot Zigmund fue sin duda uno de los percusionistas más enfrascados en la sensibilidad de cada momento de Evans. Podía romper el tempo inigualablemente y desplazar con efectividad acentos y ritmos. Este es un grupo ajustado que debería haber tenido mas sesiones juntos.
